180 rattling
My 180 has recently produced a weird metallic rattle under the bonnet. It rattles when taking my foot off the accelerator. When accelerating of braking its fine, idle is fine, and it only rattles under load, so I cant find the problem when the car is stationary. Everything looks ok. I was thinking maybe engine mount.....?
Any ideas?
Would really appreciate it.

Re: 180 rattling
never had a problem myself but from from my time looking aroung various forums i have seen numerous rattle complaints brought up. most are about the plastic engine cover, but obviously this would make a metallic noise. whilst the engine mounts do seem to go on most 180s i'd imagine it would have to be pretty serious deteriation for it to cause metallic rattle. apparently mine is worn but it doesnt make any sound.
a common complaint i have seen is one of the exhaust mountings comming lose, casuing it to hit/rattle againts the body of the car. although i would know why it would rattle under acceraltion and only decelaration.

Re: 180 rattling
is it like a ticking rattle? but ONLY when you take off and shift gears?
if so then the engine mount may be fine and it may be the engine mount nut. you need to remove everything above the engine mount and have a play around. moving the mount itself will make the noise your hearing, remove the engine mount and put some loctite on the bottom, and then tighten it back up. im planning to do this in the near future so i will write up a guide.

Re: 180 rattling
Sweet, thanks for your help.
I jacked the car up and gave it a once over, It was the exhaust heat shield.
All tightened and working as it should.
