206 GTi/180 Clutch Bearing Failure

Post by Industrie on Fri Aug 22, 2008 7:16 pm

Hey all... My first post here. Don't worry, I'm not always whinging...

Has anyone here had a failed clutch bearing in their GTi/180? If so, can you PM me? I've been doing a little research and it looks as if this is a reasonably common issue for these cars (and other PSA models). I've contacted the ACCC and they've advised me that if it is the result of poor manufacture, etc, a staturary warranty may apply. This is regardless of the fact that Peugeot's voluntary warranty has expired.

While nothing may come of this, it's a worthwhile avenue of enquiry. It could certainly save me over 2 grand. Peugeot should be able to manufacture a clutch which lasts longer than 4 years & 96,000kms.

When I took my car in to City Peugeot - one of the many things I told them to fix was a squeeky clutch (they didn't end up touching it') but they did mention that there was a generic problem regarding the clutch...

They did say it was a hefty change - and if under warranty it would cover it.

But I didn't have that problem - but I did get the idea that the problem's solution would pressure the hip-pocket.

I will try and find out.

My clutch was just squeaking as I lifted it up...it drove me insane! and still does - WD40 just isn't helping!

Yeah stock clutches usually can't take much more than 190-200 hp..
However, If i got my 138 up to around 160+ I would be changing to a heavy duty clutch.

last service at trivett eastern suburbs sydney they told me i had a noisy release bearing $2000 repair job. not under warranty as I had done about 30K kms at the time, clutch warranty only goes to 20K kms apparently. It hasn't gone yet and i have done another 5k kms or so. I think they were just trying to rip me off because the warranty was expiring soon and they knew i wasn't going to be taking the car back to them as i made them aware their service is not what it should be considering what you pay.

but i agree a clutch shoudl last longer 30K kms and if it does go in the near future I don't see why peugeot shoudln't pay for it.

my clutch is starting to fail and slip, i've been told by a friend that the clutch needs to be changed, i talked to my mechanic (friends dad) and he got a quote for me for $1250!!! i think that is heavily overpriced! does anyone know where i could get a cheaper clutch for a gti that isnt $900 just for the part!!
